The Beanstalk Jack
BLACK SOULS · Early game

The boy who climbed, robbed a giant and was called a hero for it — the last boss of the opening run at 45.5%, and the game's first question about what 'hero' means.
Where and when
The Beanstalk Jack is a moving-tree encounter in the south-east of Abandoned Forest map 1. It appears only after the world has reached at least the first development stage.
Location
Abandoned Forest, map 1, south-east moving tree.
Prerequisites
- Advance the world / Prayer Master's shop to development stage 1 or later.
- Search the south-east of the first forest map for the moving-tree event rather than a normal fog gate.

Context and planning notes
The final teacher of Phase 1. By now the game expects target priority, buff usage and patience; Jack examines all three.
Note the inversion: in the tale, Jack is the plucky protagonist and the giant is the monster. In the Lost Empire, the climber with the stolen goods is the thing you fight. BLACK SOULS spends its whole runtime interrogating heroes who rose 'seeking fame and glory' — the Steam blurb's words.
Past him, the completion curve drops into the middle acts (44.8% and below). Take stock of your build before descending.
