The second wall of BLACK SOULS' opening run, defeated by 53.8% of players. Where Helkaiser teaches you the loop, the Iron King teaches you that defense is a stat you must answer.

Where and when

Iron King waits on House of Truth 2F and is primarily a defense check. Summoning Leaf removes his armor, but the altered fight gains an earthquake attack, so the summon changes rather than simply trivializes the encounter.

Location

House of Truth, second floor.

Prerequisites

  • Reach House of Truth 2F.
  • Recruit Leaf if using the armor-strip summon route.
  • Resolve Victoria's locked-room event immediately after the fight if preserving her route.

Attack cues and responses

Cue / pattern
Without Leaf, the King's armor produces very high defense.
Use defense-breaking damage or improve weapon output instead of grinding through negligible hits.
With Leaf summoned, the armor is stripped but the King gains Quake.
Plan recovery around the added area attack; do not assume the summon only removes mechanics.
The King roars before a documented avoidable pressure turn.
Use the evasion response on the roar cue rather than attempting to out-heal it.

Loadout

  • A defense-breaking or high-output weapon for the no-summon route
  • Area-damage recovery for the Leaf/Quake route
  • A Master Key and souls ready for Victoria immediately afterward

Rewards

  • Iron King achievement
  • Access to Victoria's room and the next Fort Ivern route

Route risks

  • Advancing toward Fort Ivern without handling Victoria after the fight can kill her and close her route.
  • Leaf-summon and no-summon captures must not be mixed because the move set changes.

First-hand verification backlog

Capture these in one documented Steam-version run before this page becomes indexable:

  • House of Truth 2F entrance
  • Defense values before and after Leaf's armor strip
  • Quake and roar cues
  • Post-boss Victoria room timing

Context and planning notes

The Iron King sits directly behind Drake Helkaiser on the completion curve (53.8% vs 56.4%) — meaning nearly everyone who beats the dragon beats the king next. He is early-game content with early-game answers: levels, upgraded gear, patience.

As an armored fight, he punishes low-damage builds more than careless ones. If your hits are bouncing off, this is the game telling you to spend on offense before proceeding.

Don't confuse him with Iron Hans (34.2%) — the mid-game fight drawn from the Grimm tale. The King is the door; Hans is what's behind several more doors.
