Leaf is the first companion most players meet in BLACK SOULS and the face of its most-completed character ending (28%). In BLACK SOULS II, Mary Ann (Leaf) gives one ring in Queensland; that same item unlocks the achievement and gates the hidden F/G route.

Why this character matters

Leaf connects the two games more directly than almost any other companion. In BLACK SOULS she is an early recruit and a personal-ending partner; in BLACK SOULS II, her ring becomes a route flag for the hidden F/G branch.

That repeated ring motif is also the main source of confusion. In BLACK SOULS II, Mary Ann is Leaf in the Queensland jail event; her one ring handover is both the series callback and the hidden-ending inventory flag.

Plan this route

  • Keep a save before the companion-fog choice if you want to compare Leaf's normal and post-C variants.
  • Do not follow older notes that split the BLACK SOULS II ring into a Lutwidge copy and a Queensland copy.
  • Before starting another cycle, verify the ring, Red Hood meetings, SEN state, and ending target together.

Route — pick your spoiler level

No spoilers

  • First appearance is in the starting forest, north of the first bonfire.
  • She is recruitable on cycle 1 with no soul fee.
  • One extra early conversation changes which version of her ending you get.
  • Her BS2 ring is required for the hidden later endings; the achievement handover and F/G flag are the same item.
Hints — locations and requirements, no plot
  • Holy Forest, northern clearing. Talk once to recruit.
  • Do not talk to her at the Lost Empire gate a third time if you want the standard Leaf End.
  • Level 99 via Soul Feed before the fog. Companion list only shows heroines at 99+.
  • BS2 Queensland: advance Prickett → defeat the paired ruler encounter → east/right sealed jail → leave Mary Ann peacefully. Keep the ring in inventory; equipping is optional.
  • Hidden route: side with Leaf for Ending F, Red Hood for G.
Full steps — plot spoilers
  1. 1.BS1 start: walk north in Holy Forest, recruit Leaf. She is immortal if sacrificed (Little Mermaid covenant) but loses levels.
  2. 2.Skip the third Lost Empire-gate conversation. If she offers a talisman, refuse unless you want every companion ending this cycle to be the dark variant.
  3. 3.Soul Feed to 99. Resolve Rapunzel, Snow White, Little Mermaid, Princess Frog, defeat Cinderella.
  4. 4.Save. Touch the fog with Leaf → Leaf End (28%).
  5. 5.Optional same-cycle extra: complete Ending C, then touch the fog with Leaf without starting NG+.
  6. 6.BS2: in Queensland, advance Prickett's route, defeat the paired ruler encounter, enter the east/right sealed jail and leave Mary Ann (Leaf) peacefully. The one Leaf's Ring handover unlocks Never lose it, okay? (37.2%) and opens F/G after any A–E ending when the other hidden-route flags are ready.

What closes the route

  • Taking her ring at the Lost Empire gate (good companion endings close).
  • Killing her at Hotel Poseidon for a fairy tale before you have her ending.
  • In BS2, entering the hidden cycle without Mary Ann's Queensland ring.

Notes

Meet her in the northern Holy Forest on minute one. She is recruitable immediately and should stay in the party for any first-cycle companion ending.

Three conversations at the Gate of the Lost Empire make her hand you her talisman. That ring forces the dark variant of whoever you take into Cinderella's fog — including her.

Leaf End: level 99, finish the demonic princesses, touch the fog with her. A unique extra variant exists after Ending C in the same cycle.

BLACK SOULS II: after Prickett opens the Queensland route, leave Mary Ann (Leaf) peacefully in the sealed jail. Her single ring handover unlocks the callback achievement and supplies the F/G inventory flag.
